Analy High School School Synopsis

Analy High School reflects its unique, small town community.  Located fifty miles north of San Francisco, Sebastopol is a town of 8,000.  Analy has been its high school since 1908.  Many parents are graduates.  Parents and community are highly involved, and support the school.  Five years ago they passed a $13,000,000 bond issue, and three years ago they renewed a four-year parcel tax for another seven years.

Although the town's population is small, the school serves an area of 50,000.  In recent decades, the town has changed from a rural community to one that is more suburban; many residents commute to metropolitan areas.  Residents have above average income (the median is just under $50,000).  As a result, Analy has a rural character, urban sophistication, and high expectations.  Analy has always taken pride in its quality and student achievement.  It is primarily a college preparatory school.  Approximately 85% go directly to two or four-year colleges; the school ranks in the 98th percentile on sending students to two or four-year public schools.

Analy is one of two comprehensive high schools in the West Sonoma County Union High School District.  The high school district has 11 feeder elementary districts.  Over the last three years these districts together have developed grade level standards K-12 in English, math and social studies, and work continues in technology and science.  As a result, Analy has fully developed, articulated up-to-date, high standards, particularly in English and math.

Analy High School has a long history of excellence and achievement.  It is accustomed to being at or near the top of the county every year on state tests, SATs, AP exams, dropout rates, and California High School Performance Report measures.  The school conveys high academic expectations to its students, and hold them to very high standards.

Analy teachers take great pride in the school.  Analy empowers teacher initiative and leadership, and has substantial participatory management.  Analy teachers provide very high quality instruction.  Students and parents commend them for the variety of their instructional methods that actively involve students.

Analy has a seven period day.  As a result, we are able to offer a wide variety of electives, including 11 programs in practical arts.  Analy provides an almost entirely untracked curriculum for all students; we also offer a full range of AP and Honors classes in the five academic areas.

Analy High School serves 1400 students.  Its population is 88.3% caucasian, 7% Latino.  3.1% are Limited English Proficient.  Less than 8% are on free or reduced lunch.  9% are in Special Education programs.  We provide a support class and a Spanish-speaking aide for our Latino students and their families.  In the last three years we have begun several diversity programs.

Students at Analy participate actively.  We have over 600 athletes on 38 teams in 21 sports each year.  Performing Arts: 474 students.  Leadership-Newspaper-Yearbook: 86.  Thirteen clubs: 635.  Students participate in more than one activity, but this total is higher than our enrollment.  Students tell us that they feel there are ample opportunities to be involved at Analy.

Analy High School combines a commitment to excellence and high achievement with a warm, personal, caring environment.  There is a close esprit de corps among the staff, and real affection between students and staff.  The staff likes working here.  We are proud of what our students achieve and of our school.
